Webflow CMS Images: Bulk Convert Collection Fields to WebP

A Collection template with a 2 MB cover image is a 2 MB problem on every item page and on the list page. Convert Collection images to WebP at the template's largest image width and the whole CMS section of the site gets faster at once.

One field, many pages

CMS images are reused in bindable Image elements, backgrounds and OG settings. Replacing the Collection image updates every bound instance. Convert first, then replace the field value.

  • Editors will not open Squoosh for every item.
  • CSV/import images from clients are usually huge JPEGs.

How to do it

  1. Export Collection images or download from the Asset Manager.
  2. Bulk convert at 1600 px / 80% (covers) or 1200 px (cards only).
  3. Re-upload into each item, or use the Editor. Keep alt from the CMS field.
