Canva Downloads to WebP for Faster Pages

Canva's PNG is a design export, not a web asset. A 1920 px social graphic can be 2 MB. WebP at 80–88% is typically 80–200 KB and looks the same on a landing page.

Download once, convert once

Download PNG (or JPG) from Canva at the size you need. Convert the folder. Do not download 'PDF for print' for a website.

Why it matters

  • Small businesses live in Canva and WordPress.
  • Every blog post adds another uncompressed PNG.
  • No one wants ImageMagick on a church volunteer laptop.

How to do it

  1. Download the campaign PNGs.
  2. Convert at the page width (often 1200–1600), quality 85.
  3. Upload WebP to the CMS.

Settings that work

Text-heavy carousels: 90%. Photo collages: 80%.

Convert a batch in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Put it into practice
